Burnt Hills Music Academy
Student Policy Sheet

Welcome to the Academy! Congratulations on your decision to pursue your musical studies! The study of music is a very ancient and uniquely human endeavor. Whether as a hobby, or as a profession, it requires and develops analyhcal, creative, and abstract reasoning, discipline, self-confidence, and general well being. In no other endeavor do so many of these traits converge. Besides, it’s fun!

STUDENT FEES:  $64.00 per month for a weekly half-hour lesson. This fee represents an average of $16.00 per Lesson in an ordinary four-week month. The month fee stays the same whether it is a 3, 4,
or 5 week month (for example, if a national holiday fall on your lesson day, and the academy is closed, then that may result in a 3 week month). We have found out that a student with a regular attendance ends up with 1 or 2 free lessons over the course of the year.

PAYMENT DUE DATE: The monthly fee is due on or before the first lesson of the month. No lesson money is refundable.

METHOD OF PAYMENT: Cash or personal check, made out to your teachers’ name, and given directly to your teacher. Sorry, but our staff CANNOT ACCEPT monies intended for the teachers.

Teachers regard your monthly lesson payment as tuition. They are by and large self-employed people. They pay for there own health care, vacations, equipment, and musical studies. The lessons that they give reflect thousands of dollars in education and equipment, and thousands of hours of study and practice. The teaching revenue is to them an important source of revenue, and they do love to do it! They ask you to understand that most students want to come after school and after work, that they have a limited number of spaces on their schedule to sell to make a living

We have found that allowing people to “pay-as-they-go”, from week to week, is not in the interest of the teacher or the students. Students who have paid in advance are more conscientious about preparing for their lessons and coming regularly, consequently, they derive more benefit from their lessons, feel inspired to practice and continue to make faster progress.

Remember teachers are people too! They want and deserve to have a predictable income. They themselves don’t have paid sick days, instead they have make-ups or refunds to do.

SUPPLIES: We provide amplifiers, cables, music stands, chairs, pencils, and ect., for your use during your lesson. You can purchase new and used musical equipment from us; and we can order almost anything, please feel comfortable asking us at any time. For your convenience, there are a variety of payment plains here, including 90-Day Layaway, Pay-As-You-Play, and Rent-To-Own plans. Please ask your sales assistant for details.

LESSON ROOM: Lesson rooms are soundproofed, carpeted, air-conditioned, and are suitably large. There are windows on the doors so that all activities can be observed. We are committed to providing the best teachers, lesson rooms, and support, as well as the best learning atmosphere possible. We are also committed to being prepared, on time, and to being enthusiastic about helping you to achieving your musical goals. Some of the teachers are only here one day of the week.; others have two ore more days scheduled and therefore can offer more flexibility in scheduling lessons and make-ups. We will work with you, encouraging you to choose a lesson time you can keep regularly and to help you make playing your instrument a regular part of your lifestyle.

MAKE-UP-POLICY:  We will offer one make-up opportunity in each 3-month period. Additional make-ups can be offered at the teachers’ discretion.

We know it’s not always possible to make a lesson. People get sick; conflicts arise in your schedule. We want to give you your moneys’ worth. We understand that sometimes you will not be able to give us much notice that you cannot attend; however, we certainly appreciate as much notice as possible when you must cancel a lesson. If we know in advance that you are not coming, we can plan to use the time well… for practicing, eating dinner, or arranging a make-up lesson with another student. It is our policy to arrange make-up lessons when students notify us of a cancellation before the day of their lesson; otherwise, we do not feel obligated to do so. If you cannot make a lesson CALL YOUR TEACHER AT THERE HOME PHONE NUMBER to let them know as soon as possible. It is our policy not to interrupt a lesson in progress.

NOTE: We do not fallow the school calendar.

When School is closed for snow days, we may still be opened. Call to see if your lesson is still scheduled.

We look forward to working with you, and hope you will enjoy your visits at the Academy!
